Rare 1970s Elvis Presley’s 14k gold Ankh Italian horn on thick 14k gold chain personally owned and worn.
This twin chained 14k gold rope chain suspends an 18k blue enamel Egyptian ankh with an Italian horn which is supposed to ward off evil spirits. Elvis had two of these unique necklaces created during the early 70s, both of the double chains were attached to ankhs. Below is a photo of Elvis wearing a very similar chain. This necklace was worn by Elvis before giving it to Mary Sumner, wife of J.D. Sumner.
Accompanied with photos of wearing the second chain as well as a LOA from Shirley Enoch, daughter of J.D. And Mary Sumner.
The ankh (symbol ☥) was the Egyptian hieroglyphic character that read "life". Egyptian gods are often portrayed carrying it by its loop, or bearing one in each hand, arms crossed over their chest. It is also known as the Egyptian Cross, the key of life, the key of the Nile, or as crux ansata, Latin for "cross with a handle".
The Italian horn, also called a cornu, cornicello, or Devil’s horn, is worn mainly to protect against the “evil eye”. Historically, it is linked to Celtic and Druid beliefs and to worship of the Moon Goddess in ancient Italy. Ironically, the horn is often worn with a cross to give it “extra power.”
Elvis wore a wide variety of Ankh necklaces in the 70's. He also wore a variety of necklaces that had another chain linking across up higher on the chain. below are just a few examples.
