PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THIS WAS AN INCOMPLETE POSTER. Prior to linen backing this was an incomplete poster with a few sections missing that were expertly recreated by the famous restorer Joe Hernandez. Approximately 25% of the poster was flawlessly recreated including the STAR WARS title and the back half of the X Wing Fighter. The work is impeccable and is virtually impossible to detect unless you know what to look for. Even the experts at Butterfield & Butterfield were unaware of this and wrongly described it as MINT in their catalogue (or maybe they knew about it and chose not to disclose it). The rest of the original poster was unused and required no restoration.
Picture 1 of catalogue, Picture 2 of catalogue. Additional photo 1, additional photo 2, additional photo 3, additional photo 4. There is an approximate 2" white linen border on the top and sides and 5" on the bottom.
The following description is by our consignor:
The Star Wars 1977 US “Style A” 24-sheet is one of the most extraordinary pieces of film art ever created for a major Hollywood motion picture.
The 24-sheet is the rarest of the nine sizes that were first printed for the most coveted Star Wars poster category, namely, the US Style A. It was intended for high profile billboards in three key target markets, namely, New York, LA, and San Francisco.
